Save Gas and Time and Have Fun in Georgia’s Lake Country

Here’s a webpage that gives an idea about places to visit and things to do in Georgia’s Lake Country.  I still haven’t seen Rock Eagle though I have driven by that area several times looking for property.  People used to talk about it when I was growing up because the 4-H Clubs went there, I think.

Anyway, there is a museum and archives for artist Steffen Thomas that looks cool.  They have family workshops once a month on Saturdays and even an online tour of the museum.  It’s in the real Buckhead, Georgia, near Madison.

Try The Salmon and Fries at McCray’s Tavern in Lawrenceville, GA

I ate at McCray’s Taven on the Square in Lawrenceville with my friend, Greg, the other day.  He felt sorry for me I guess when he agreed to meet me.  But not sorry enough that he picked up the tab.  It was raining buckets.  So, being smart guys, we ate inside.  I had, on the waitress’ recommendation, a smoked salmon taco or something like that.  It had a sauce that was scrumptious.  The fries were not too greasy but crispy just the way I like them.  The waitress was friendly and I would like to go back and try the roof tables when the weather warms up.

There Really Is a Palmetto, Georgia?

Kevin Sack of the NYTImes.com wrote an article about the Farmhouse, the restaurant at the Inn at Serenbe in Palmetto, Georgia.  Renowned Atlantans, Steve and Marie Nygren, started it.  It sounds like I need to plan a day-trip…….. at least for the fried chicken.

Suicide Prevention

Eric Ogden and Jeff O’Connell of Men’s Health wrote an article about suicide that may be surprising.

Other resources to get more information are: PsychAlive, Glendon, The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, and The American Association of Suicidology.

Suicidal? You are not alone. Please don’t give up.

If you or someone you love are thinking that life is hopeless and not worth living, please contact the people with The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-2855.  They even have a special section for Veterans too.  Here is a resource locator for Veterans where you just have to put in your state or zip code.  Here’s a Mayo Clinic article about what to do when someone you know is suicidal.  The National Institute for Mental Health has more articles and resources.

Please get help.  God gave all of us a combination of talents, abilities, gifts, and personalities that do make each of us unique.  There is no one else like me or you.  Even when life seems to be not worthwhile, look for something good.  Yes, this world is full of evil and sadness and pain.  Yet, there is still love and mercy and beauty and justice too although I know sometimes it seems hard to find.  We need each other and, if we reach out, we might find others looking for us too.

I am in the real estate business.  It has been horrible for me especially since our firms’s focus had been on finding land for developers.  Well, the latest stats I have seen say that metro Atlanta has 120,000 developed lots already on the ground and ready to go.  Gee, I guess I need to focus somewhere else, you think?  I’ve had to realize that my value as person is not based on my income or my net worth or my influence.  If it is, then I am in trouble.  God can teach me better now because I am listening more intently.  Maybe give Him a try.

Matthews Cafeteria – Good Comfort Food

Today was unusual in that I met my brother-in-law for lunch at Matthews Cafeteria in Tucker, Georgia.  We have hardly ever gotten together in 19 years and he said he owed me for lunch although I could not remember the last time I had bought him a meal.  Anyway, he was adamant about it so I agreed even though I had asked him to meet.

Matthews was, in the last year, on one of the Food Network shows, Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives.  You can guess which one it qualified under.  After getting berated by my brother-in-law for getting a big piece of baked fish instead of country-fried steak, we found a table and caught up with each other’s lives.  I had fried okra, greens, scalloped potatoes, and tea.  It was all good and the workers were friendly.  Here’s an article from the AJC about the show and filming at the landmark restaurant.

Do Banks Have Too Much Power? Read Thomas Jefferson

‘I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around the banks will deprive the people of all property until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered.’ – Thomas Jefferson 1802

“The financial system has been turned over to the Federal Reserve Board. That board administers a finance system by authority of a purely profiteering group. That system is private, conducted for the sole purpose of obtaining the greatest possible profits from the use of other people’s money. This (Federal Reserve) Act establishes the most gigantic trust on earth. When the president signs this bill, the invisible government by the monetary power will be legalized. The people may not know it immediately but the day of reckoning is only a few years removed, the worst legislative crime of the ages perpetrated by this banking bill.” – Charles A. Lindbergh, R-MN

“Most Americans have no real understanding of the operation of the international money lenders. The accounts of the Federal Reserve system have never been audited. It operates outside the control of Congress and manipulates the credit of the United States.” – Barry Goldwater, R-AZ

“Give me the right to issue and control a nation’s money and I care not who governs the country.” Meyer Amschal Rothschild, International banker

“We have in this country one of the most corrupt institutions the world has ever known. I refer to the Federal Reserve Board. This institution has impoverished the people of the United States and has practically bankrupted our government. It has done this through the corrupt practices of the money vultures who control it. A superstate controlled by international bankers and international industrialists acting together to enslave the world for their own pleasure.” – Louis McFadden, R-PA 1915-1923

“We have in this country one of the most corrupt institutions the world has ever known. I refer to the Federal Reserve Board and the Federal Reserve Banks. Some people think the Federal Reserve Banks are U.S. government institutions. They are private credit monopolies; domestic swindlers, rich and predatory money lenders which prey upon the people of the United States for the benefit of themselves and their foreign customers. The Federal Reserve banks are the agents of the foreign central banks. The truth is the Federal Reserve Board has usurped the Government of the United States by the arrogant credit monopoly which operates the Federal Reserve Board.” Congressman Louis T. McFadden, Chairman of the House Banking and Currency Committee, addressed the House on June 10, 1932. 75 Congressional Record 12595-12603

“History records that the money changers have used every form of abuse, intrigue, deceit, and violent means possible to maintain their control over governments by controlling the money and its issuance.” – James Madison

“It is well enough that the people of this nation do not understand our banking and monetary system, for if they did, I believe there would be a revolution before tomorrow morning.” – Henry Ford

“I have unwittingly ruined my country.” – W. Wilson, upon passage of Federal Reserve Act, 1913

Donnie Meeler of Meeler Enterprises, Inc. (Septic Tank or Alternative Systems)

Have you had the pleasure of a septic tank or alternative system refusing to pump raw sewage anymore?  After living in our home for about 11 years, a 88,000 amp lightning bolt was determined to have struck within a quarter of a mile of my house.  The fellow that the insurance company sent out was able to pinpoint it by some historical data that his company has access to.  Anyway, our alternative system that had worked well for many years quit.  This bolt fried the motherboard and I was surprised at how few firms were authorized by the manufacturer to work on these.

I finally ended up contacting Donnie Meeler of Meeler Septic Service after getting a recommendation from a friend of my father-in-law.  Donnie determined what options that we had and then figured out the most cost-effective way to approach the problem considering the various factors involved.

He ended up being able to customize a system for our home that is more efficient and reliable than the previous one.  These systems require maintenance to perform properly.  I watched him do some of it today.  Trust me, the units have filters for a reason and the filters need cleaning regularly.  It’s a smart idea to try and find little issues before they become major problems.  He does that too on a regular basis.

Anyway, I know sometimes it is hard to find good, reliable people to help solve your problems.  If one of yours is a septic system or alternative septic system, give Donnie a call at (770) 231-1421 or e-mail him at meeler05@yahoo.com.  They even do hauling work.

This is not a paid endorsement or a guarantee of any work duly performed.  Just thought you might need some help like I did not too long ago.

George Reisman Writes on the Ludwig von Mises Institute Website

George Reisman makes a compelling case that laissez faire capitalism is not the cause of our current financial setbacks.  He also has another article from the summer that begins wondering if Obama is an American version of Hugo Chavez.

More articles and books regarding these type of issues can be found at the Ludwig von Mises Institute website.  If you are serious about learning about the soundness of money systems, why private property rights are important, and why free market economies are vital to our liberties and financial well-being as individuals and nations, look around their site some more.
